LIGHT OBJECTS, 2026

Light Objects is a series of textile artifacts that push the boundaries of upcycling fabric, yarn, and knitted pieces by transforming these materials into three-dimensional forms.

The practice stems from an awareness of the labour-intensive nature of garment upcycling—a process that requires specialized equipment and time-consuming disassembly. The search for faster, simpler, and more valuable approaches to textile upcycling has led this research beyond garment-to-garment transformation, using light as an interactive agent that shapes and transforms matter.

The textile waste used in this series was locally sourced and transformed using bio-based, fully compostable binders. When dissolved in water or returned to the soil, the binders release the fibres, allowing them to return to their original state and eventually biodegrade if buried in the ground.
